Charles Leiper Grigg

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Charles Leiper Grigg (born 1868), was the inventor of 7 Up. He invented the drink in October of 1929, and after some name changes, the drink was named 7Up. He became acquainted with the carbonated beverage business after moving to St. Louis, Missouri. Prior to inventing 7Up, Grigg had created an orange soft drink named "Whistle" for the Vess Soda Company. It is still made and sold in St. Louis. Some believe the red dot on the 7Up logo comes from the inventor's red eyes, claiming he was albino. However, Grigg was not albino. In photographs he appears normally pigmented, and no biographies mention him being an albino.
