Charles Hope, 1st Earl of Hopetoun

Charles Hope, 1st Earl of Hopetoun (1681-26 February 1742) was a Scottish nobleman
In 1699 he married Henrietta, daughter of William Johnstone, 1st Marquess of Annandale.
Created Earl of Hopetoun in the Peerage of Scotland in 1703, he supported union with England. He later served as a Scottish representative peer from 1722 until his death, and was Lord Lieutenant of Linlithgowshire from 1715 until his death and Lord High Commissioner to the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland in 1723. He was Governor of the Bank of Scotland from 1740 until his death.
He was created a Knight of the Thistle in 1738. One of his grandsons, George Johnstone Hope was a highly decorated naval officer who faought at the Battle of Trafalgar.
