Charles Eyton

Charles Eyton (New Zealand, June 24, 1871 - Hollywood, CA, July 2, 1941) was an actor-producer who became General Manager of Famous Players-Lasky Corporation (a Paramount Pictures subsidiary) during the silent film era.

[edit] Career

Eyton was the brother of writer Alice Eyton, and had served as a promoter for prize fighters. Eyton also served as a referee in the prize ring, and at one time officiated a world championship bout.

He produced a number of film serials, most of which starring his wife, actress Kathlyn Williams, whom he divorced in 1931.

Some sources have claimed that following the murder of director William Desmond Taylor, Eyton organised a group of employees to enter Taylor’s home in an attempt to remove embarrassing and incriminating items, possibly with some police cooperation.

It has also been speculated that Eyton may have created forged letters to Taylor from a handful of actresses, for the purpose of confusing the case.
