Charles Eden
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Charles Eden (c. 1673 – March 17, 1722), was appointed as Governor of North Carolina in July of 1713. Pirates Stede Bonnet and Blackbeard, who was also known as Edward Teach, surrendered themselves as reformed pirates to Governor Eden and received the King's Pardon. It has long been alleged that Governor Eden had a business relationship with Blackbeard and even profited when Blackbeard returned to piracy. However those allegations were never proven. Charles Eden's reputation has been forever tarnished by the link to Blackbeard. The town of Edenton, NC is named for him.
