Charles Donnelly

Charles Donnelly (1914 - 1937) was an Irish poet. Born Charles Patrick Donnelly in County Tyrone, he attended University College, Dublin but left in 1934. He was active in politics and fought with the International Brigades. He died on service, having been promoted to the rank of field commander, in Jarama, Spain during the Spanish Civil War. He is famous for the line "Even the olives are bleeding".

The collection, The Life and Poems, is published in 1987.
