Charles Deering Estate
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Charles Deering Estate is a 440-acre mansion and property in Miami, Florida in the United States. It was the home of Charles Deering, brother of millionaire industrialist James Deering. Charles used the property regularly between 1916 and 1927. The property was ravaged by Hurricane Andrew in 1992, but has been restored and is open to the public. The grounds have what is thought to be the largest virgin coastal tropical hardwood hammock in the contiguous U.S. The estate, located at 16701 S. W. 72nd Avenue on Biscayne Bay, was acquired by the state of Florida in 1985.
