Charles-Joseph-Eugene de Mazenod (b. August 1, 1782, Aix-en-Provence – d. May 21, 1861, Marseille) commonly known as Eugene de Mazenod, or since his canonization on 3 December 1995, as Saint Eugene or Saint Charles-Joseph-Eugene de Mazenod was the founder of the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate and from 1837 on bishop of Marseille, France. During his episcopacy he commissioned Notre-Dame-de-la-Garde, an ornate Neo-Byzantine basilica on the south side of the old port of Marseille.

He was beatified on 19 October 1975 by Pope Paul VI, and canonized on 3 December 1995 by Pope John Paul II
