[edit] Description

Chaos appears as a humanoid creature of approximately 2 meters height, with three thick horns sprouting out of its head above its eyes.

He has a triangular face, with blue-black skin, and red glowing eyes. His ears are long (longer than his face), thin, and pointy. His neck is long, thin and ribbed.

His upper body appears to be a ribcage, to which skeletal arms are attached. He has no legs, but his lower body resembles tattered or ragged robes, constantly flowing in an invisible wind, as he floats on his way. His lower arms appear to wear the rest of wide sleeves.

[edit] History

Chaos appears relatively late in the game but is still a major character.

He first appears when Bishop Mandible (who featured as the villain up to that point) of the guild of Clerics tears a hole in the fabric of reality with the help of Bobbin's (the main protagonist) distaff. He did so in order to create an "army of the dead".

However, his plan backfires, for the hole not only opens the path to the world of "the dead and those transcended", but also allows Chaos to enter the world of the living. After destroying Bishop Mandible (and by this becoming the final, greater villain of the game), Chaos proceeds to enter the world of the living, planning to make it his own.

Before Bobbin meets Chaos again, he first re-visits the places he saw earlier in the game, all of them already visited by Chaos. When Bobbin reaches the guild of blacksmiths, he learns that Chaos has made the blacksmiths a part of his army, and their fortress "Forge" into their mobile headquarters.

At the guild of Glassmakers, he finds the dying Guildmaster Goodmold, who explains that Chaos took the glass scythe, which can destroy the dead, from the guild house "Crystalgard", and has headed on to the weavers' island to take the great Loom of the weavers, with which he would be able to rule even the Pattern of Reality.

The second encounter with Chaos is also the last. Bobbin reaches the Loom before Chaos, but before he is able to "unmake" it, Chaos finally appears. Chaos tries to tempt Bobbin into joining him as his advisor. However, Chaos foolishly kills Bobbin's foster mother Hetchel and loses whatever slim chance he had of winning him over. Bobbin at last manages to unmake the Loom, creating a tear through the entire Fabric of Reality, making it impossible for Chaos, or anybody else on the other side of the rift, to pass over.

[edit] Trivia

  • Chaos was male in all but one version of LOOM. In the VGA version, Chaos was female.
  • The voice of Chaos in the VGA version was done by the same voice actor as the voice of Lady Cygna Threadbare (also from LOOM). In the case of Chaos, however, her voice was distorted.
  • The line "I am Chaos." was actually misspelled "I am Choas." in the VGA version.
  • Two sequels of LOOM, named Forge and The Fold, were planned, detailing Chaos's eventual defeat by the combined forces of Bobbin, Bobbin's birth mother, Hetchel, the entire Guild of Weavers (returned from the Shore of Wonder), Rusty Nailbender, and Fleece Firmflanks. As these sequels were never produced, Chaos's ultimate defeat is left to the fan's individual imagination.
