Change (band)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Change was an American-European group formed in Italy by producers Jacques Fred Petrus and Mauro Malavasi. Lead vocal duties on their earliest recordings, as well as on their debut album, were done by Luther Vandross (April 20, 1951 - July 1, 2005).

Once Vandross left to pursue a successful solo career, the group was based out of New York and vocals were handled by James Robinson and Deborah Cooper. Cooper went on to sing for C&C Music Factory and has had major success as a solo dance music diva, scoring several number-one songs on the Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart.

Change hit the Hot 100 several times, but only cracked the Top 40 once, with "A Lover's Holiday," which hit number 40. On the Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart they were much more successful. "A Lover's Holiday" ; "The Glow Of Love"; "Searching" spent nine weeks at number one in 1980 and "Paradise"; "Hold Tight"; "Heaven Of My Life" spent a week at number one in 1981.

Many of their songs are still used in today's music via sampling, examples being Black Sheep's 1991 single- "Strobelite Honey" and the most recent (and probably most successful) example would be Janet Jackson's use of "The Glow Of Love" as the rhythm track to her number-one hit "All For You" in 2001.
