Challenge of the Ancient Empires

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Challenge of the Ancient Empires (or Ancient Empires) is a puzzle video game released by The Learning Company in 1991. It involves the investigation of the ancient civilizations of Egypt, Greece & Rome, China, and the Near East (or Middle East). The player must navigate their way through different chambers and collect a total of six artifacts, while climbing ropes, falling down shafts, and avoiding creatures such as spiders and ants, as well as a giant lobster that shoots balls of fire. Once the player has collected the six artifacts in the chamber, they must rearrange pieces to solve a puzzle that depicts an ancient building, statue, or work of art. Once this is done, the player must then re-navigate the chamber for a door, inside which they must decode a logic puzzle. If they correctly do so, they will continue to the next chamber. There are four chambers in each world. Once the player has completed all four worlds, there is an Ancient World level, also with four chambers to complete.
