Challenge Stakes

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Challenge Stakes is a Group 2 flat horse race in the United Kingdom for three-year-old and above thoroughbreds run over a distance of 7 furlongs (1,408 metres) at Newmarket's Rowley Mile course in October.

It was first run in 1878 as the First Great Challenge Stakes over six furlongs for two-year-olds and upwards. The distance was increased to seven furlongs in 1977 and two-year-olds were excluded in 1985.
