Chalkiopoulo

Chalkiopoulo ( παλιά ονομασία κοινότης Χαλκιοπούλων) is a village which is located in the northwest part of the prefecture Aetolia and Acarnania (Greece). The village appears in the list of Greece's villages which was issued by the Greek Kingdom (Otto king of Greece) after the independence (1832).It belongs to the municipality of Inachous(΄Ιναχος) and the province of Valtos. The old village is mostly abandoned by its inhabitants (population 90 people according to 1991 census)and a new settlement created along the bank of the river Inachous with the name "New Chalkiopoulo - Νέο Χαλκιόπουλο)".New Chalkiopoulo has a population of 636 inhabitants. The altitude of the new village is 270 meters above the sea level. The new village has a health center which provides primary health services to all the people in the municipality of Inachous. There is also a good market place and someone can find and buy almost everything.
