Chalk Mark in a Rainstorm is the 1988 album by Joni Mitchell, and her third for Geffen Records. Drenched in warm synthesisers, the album furthers her experiment with 80's pop production sounds. Highlights include "The Beat of Black Wings", the tale of a traumatised soldier, and "The Reoccurring Dream", an assault on capitalism compiled from samples of TV commercials. The Billy Idol duet "Dancin' Clown", is regarded by some as Mitchell's worst song, whereas her duets with Peter Gabriel on "My Secret Place" and Willie Nelson on "Cool Water" were generally better received.
