From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Rosalino Félix Sánchez, known as Chalino (born August 30, 1960 in El Rancho Las Flechas, Municipio de El Guayabo Sinaloa, Mexico died May 16, 1992), was a Mexican singer. Many of his songs are norteño corridos. His music included stories about drug trafficking, murders and crooked police officials, as well as the struggles of working-class Mexicans.
Born and raised in Sinaloa, Mexico, Chalino illegally immigrated to Los Angeles, California in 1977. Chalino was born to two parents of names Sabás Sántos Sánchez and Maria Jesus Sánchez Felix. It's stipulated by the majority that his hardships came at the very young age of 4 when his father passed away, which caused much depression to his family.
So, naturally Chalino and his other brothers(Armando, Baudelio, Regulo, Sergio, and his sister Juana)assumed the father-role and began to work at a young age. One day when Chalino arribed at his home (Rancho Las Flechas) he discovered her sister who was distraught and told Chalino she had been raped by a powerful 'mafioso' who live nearby. Chalino reacted angrily to the news and bowed to sought out the perverted man who took part of her sister's rape. It is believed that a few days later, Chalino would confront the man who commited the sin towards them and (it has been stipulated)ended up killing the man, for good.
The actions Chalino decisively made attracted more danger towards his part, and for this Chalino was forced to leave Culiacan, Sinaloa, Mexico and begin a new chapter of his life on the other side.

[edit] Arrival on the United States
By the mid 1980's, Chalino migrated to United States of America illegaly, accomplishing his crossing with the help of a local "pollero" (Metaphorically speaking of gathering, rounding up, herding)across the border of Baja California to Southern California; Coachella to be exact. He began working in the fields of Coachella, working and profiting from odd jobs given to him. While concentrating on his regular business, Chalino's sister, Juaná Sánchez, introduced him to a woman (who would later in life give birth to two children by names of, Adán Santos Sánchez Vallejo , and Cynthia Sánchez Felix)by the name of Márisela Vallejos Felix. Another tragedy would occur in Chalino's family, his beloved brother, Armando Sánchez would be found murdered at an hotel named Santa Alita. His brother(as Chalino's corrido, "El Corrido de Armando Sánchez" maintain)was betrayed by a good friend of his. It is instances in one's life that prompted Chalino to write and sing about tragedies, 'mafiosos', drug dealers, and also love songs.
[edit] Beggining of a New Career
One day while at work, Chalino confronted a man by the name of Angel Parra, who became interested in Chalino's voice after a small performance given. Angel Parra lead Chalino to his studio named Angel Studios, and began recording his first demo. cassette with a norteño group named, Los Cuatro de la Frontera (The Four men of the Frontier). While Chalino was in the studio he recorded various first corridos such as Armando Sánchez(Firstly), El Sapo, Beto Lopez, y Los Sinaloenses(The Sinaloans). After Chalino recorded his first demo. his fame was given a boost towards fame(Not in actuallity such as overnight sensations grow), and his fame grew slowly but with a constant force.
Chalino 'peddled' his music most anywhere he'd recieve the chance to, swapmeets, car washes, factories, etc. Everything was against him, but all he cared for was for his voice, dedication, and untapped niche that wasn't yet realized. By the year 1989, Chalino had become recognized throughout California, and by this time request started piling in on Chalino's part, which usually the payments for it was money, clothing, vehicles, weapons, and various items of currency, while he complide.
[edit] Uprised Fame
By the year 1990, Chalino was througly known throughout California, and most Western U.S. States. Chalino made a real name for himself; performing in various location such as El Parral Nightclub, and El Farallon, and also performing in shows such as Keystone Ford Show and Noches de Taconazo. By this time he had also switched bands, now his exclusive group was Los Amables del Norte(The Loveables of the North), who'd he would produce some of the best songs he'd ever publish. Chalino was easily toting his .380 Super pistol and demanding $10,000 a night for his exclusive perofmances; he had switched to numerous record labels such as Discos Linda, Cintas Acuario, RR, Balboa Records Edimusa, and his final signed record company, Musart.
[edit] Walk Towards Danger
One day in Coachella, California near Palm Springs, California, Chalino was performing his usual singing duties, when a man named Eduardo Gallegos approached Chalino and requested him to sing him "El Gallo de Sinaloa", and Chalino responded back," Yes my friend, in a minute", and he continued pefroming various other songs and once the requested song began to be performed, the same man (who witnesses believe was intoxicated at the time)pulled towards the right side of the stage and pulled out a .9mm pistol and began firing at Chalino. In proper defence, he'd also pull out his .380 Super pistol and unsuccessfully fired back 2 shots at the man, and to the contrary, Eduardo fired a barrage of bullets(atleast a full clip of ammunition)at Chalino, which only two successfully struck Chalino. After the incident, Eduardo Gallegos was killed by Coachella Police Department officers after attempting to provoke them also, he was 33 when he died. Chalino was transferred to a local hospital in which he fought for his life for at least 2 weeks, recovered and was released.
[edit] Finalized Death
May 15, 1992, Chalino was contracted to leave the United States to perfom in Culiacan, Sinaloa, Mexico, in the promised belief of a big payment. Before Chalino preceded towards Mexico, his friends and managers adviced him not to go to his scheduled performance in Culiacan in fear of his life; most likely for the past threats Chalino had recieved, and various encounters with death and conflicts. Chalino arrived luxuriously at Culiacan with his proper and known attire, and directed himself to the location of his performance. While Chalino was performing casually on stage, he received a note while on stage, to this day it is unknown of what was stated but in an exclusive home-video his visual appearance begins to change anxiously; fearing something, and throughout his performance he is seen constantly wiping his sweat, from his forehead with his bandana. Aftr his performance, Chalino advised his manager about the death threat and was told to seclude himself at a nearby residence for the night.
May 16, 1992, Chalino was being transported in a Chevy Suburban through the morning streets of Culiacan, after about 20 minutes, the Suburban was driving near a secluded location when an unmarked PFP Federal Police Vehicle intercepted them and forced them to the side. (It is known to have been imposters police men) It is recounted that the men wanted to take Chalino and his manager but Chalino's will and consciense gave him the confidence to stand up to them and tell his friends to take him only.
At approximatley 12:30 in the morning, Chalino's lifeless body was discovered of the side of a road sustaining two bullets to the back of the head. The next day newspapers in Sinaloa read," Chalino Sánchez, Secuestrado y Ajusticiado"(Chalino Sánchez, Kidnapped and Executed). Rosalino "Chalino" Sánchez was burried in the gravesite at El Ranch Los Vacitos, in the sindicate of Las Tapias, Culiacan, Sinaloa, Mexico.
