Chainsaw Kittens
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Chainsaw Kittens (or The Chainsaw Kittens) formed in 1989 and was a glam-pop/indie-rock band. Drawing from pop, glam rock, punk, New Wave and British Invasion music, and with lyrics tackling such varied topics as religion, the Stonewall Riots, Federico Fellini, Oklahoma, Erik Menendez, and Oscar Wilde, the Chainsaw Kittens were a part of the American alternative rock scene.
Extant from 1989 to 2000, based in Norman, Oklahoma, the group underwent several personnel changes, but always maintained the presence of principal singer/songwriter Tyson Meade, formerly of the band Defenestration, which released two albums; Meade was backed for most of the Kittens' life by Trent Bell (guitar/producer/co-songwriter), Matthew Johnson (bass), and Eric Harmon (drums).
For various reasons, primary among them a pronounced lack of major label support, the Kittens saw little commercial success. However, they have since gained recognition in such respected sources as the All Music Guide and the Trouser Press as one of the best groups of their era.
