Chaibasa is a city and a municipality in Pashchimi Singhbhum district in the state of Jharkhand, India.

Chaibasa is located at [1]. It has an average elevation of 222 metres (728 feet). Pashchimi Singhbhum district came into existence when the old Singhbhum district was bifurcated in 1990. Pashchimi Singhbhum has 15 blocks and two administrative sub-divisions. The district is full of hills alternating with valleys, steep mountains, and deep forests on the mountain slopes. The district contains one of the best sal forests in India and the famous Saranda ( seven hundred hills) forest area.

Chaibasa has an average literacy rate of 74%, higher than the national average of 59.5%; with male literacy of 79% and female literacy of 68%. 12% of the population is under 6 years of age.
