Chad I. Ginsburg
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Chad I. Ginsburg (born April 26, 1973) is the guitar player and mixer/producer of the modern rock band, CKY. He also plays some bass on the albums. Chad Ginsburg appeared in his first album Reverb on the Click by the band Rudy + Blitz in 1995.
Most recently, Chad has been responsible for the addition of intricate guitar solos to CKY's songs starting with their new album, An Ånswer Can Be Found. However, Chad's more basic guitar work can be heard in the earlier albums Infiltrate Destroy Rebuild, CKY Volume 1, and some work on CKY Volume 2.
His signature was the "Bitch Toss" (now laid to rest), in which he flips the guitar around his body. He credits the band Cinderella for this move.
He is known for being and up-front about his fans, and doesn't shy away from signing autographs or posing for photos, or drinking at the bar with fans.
Chad can also be seen in the CKY videos and in Bam Margera's film Haggard. Chad was part of the fictitious band, Gnarkill, in the film. He is not a part of the current band Gnarkill (which is comprised of friends Bam Margera, Brandon DiCamillo, and band-mate Jess Margera). He is also shown in many of the early CKY films such as CKY and CKY2K.
After CKY dismissed their original touring bassist, Ryan Bruni, Chad filled in, and is seen tossing his bass over his shoulder on the cover of Volume 1.
In 2004, after their next touring bassist, Vern Zaborowski, was fired, Chad again took over for the brief tour (the first show without Vern was in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on June 27, 2004, where Chad stated, "It seems we're missing someone, although, we don't really MISS him...").
[edit] Rudy + Blitz
Rudy + Blitz is a band formed by Chad and Dante Cimino in the early nineties in the Philadelphia area. Dante recruited Dave Kloos to play bass and sing. Rudy and Blitz were signed to Ruffhouse/Columbia, who dropped them due to personal conflicts between the band and the record label. Chad later received the record back in his possession, intending on shopping it around to other labels, but the band broke up due to Kloos' disappearance. Rudy and Blitz later played a few shows in and around Philadelphia, and were seen on local public access channels.
Since the band has split, the members went on to pursue different projects. Dante Cimino plays drums in a band called Custom Deluxe (with Kloos on bass, no vocals), a project with Kloos called Three, and Cimino also plays drums in a band called Laguardia. Kloos and Dante are now recording some stuff on their own which is available on Myspace under Kloos & Dante.
The band's album, Reverb on the Click, was rereleased in 2003 by Ginsburg.
[edit] Trivia
- Cites GG Allin as a large influence on his music, (GG's brother Merle Allin has performed with CKY live).
- Favorite guitar players are Steve Vai, Paul Gilbert, Yngwie Malmsteen, Joe Satriani, and Richie Kotzen.
- Is a high school drop-out, opted for a GED instead.
- Was arrested several times when he was younger for disorderly conduct, breaking and entering, and trespassing.
- Used to do his trademark backwards guitar flip that was dubbed the "bitch toss" by his fans. When other, more popular bands caught on to doing this move, they claimed it as theirs and Chad decided to retire it but has recently unretired it on CKY's latest tour.
- Was, at one time homeless. He claims to have lived in his 1984 Chevy van with various local strippers, and even a chicken coop.
- The 'I' is not short for anything at all. His father (who Chad claimed was a hippie) gave him the initial to represent "independence", "individuality", and other positive traits beginning with the letter "i". In one instance, on the CKY website ([1]), it is said that the "I" stands for "Individual" ([2]).
- As a child grew up listening to Def Leppard, Mötley Crüe, Stevie Wonder, KISS (Still a giant fan), The Beatles (Still a giant fan), Ozzy Osbourne, Van Halen, The Who, David Lee Roth, Steve Vai, Cinderella, Racer X, Yngwie Malmsteen, Disco music and Jimi Hendrix
- His mother made him model for a Tuxedo company called After6 at the age of 8 years old. He didn't enjoy the experience (The tux was itchy and the shoes were too small), and never agreed to model again. His modeling did make a magazine which he still owns.
- Attended Council Rock High School in Bucks County, Pennsylvania before he dropped out.
- He plays Ibanez guitars and has various models including RGs, Icemen and Destroyers
- The experimental punk rock band Contentedly Disengaged wrote a song in 2006 about Chad, called "The CIG Song" (also known as just "Chad I Ginsburg"). The song talks about how "hot, sexy and jewish" Chad is.
