CHA-LA HEAD-CHA-LA

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

CHA-LA HEAD-CHA-LA (チャラ・ヘッチャラ chara hecchara?) is the first theme song for the Japanese anime television series Dragon Ball Z. It was used for episodes 1-199, movies 1-9, and the Japanese versions of Dragon Ball Z: Budokai and Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 2. It was replaced starting at episode 200 by "WE GOTTA POWER". Originally performed by Hironobu Kageyama, it has been done in several re-mixes and even performed by Kageyama in English for the album Mixture. The song itself captures the flavor of Akira Toriyama's Dr. Slump/Dragon Ball universe. The lyrics take a childish bent but denote the adventurous nature of the Dragon Ball Z TV series itself and reference one of the signature attacks for the series, the Genki Dama (or Spirit Bomb in the English language dubs). The song was remade by Kageyama in 2005 and also covered by Japanese band Animetal in the same year.

[edit] List of International Language Versions

When Dragon Ball Z was broadcast in different countries, the original theme tune would occasionally be re-recorded in that country's language (except the U.S. version, which replaced the original music completely and U.S. movies which had the Japanese version, only for movies 1-3 though). Usually, in most localized versions, the theme had the original Japanese music and the CHA-LA HEAD-CHA-LA chorus intact. Sometimes, in other versions, the music would be re-orchestrated, and rarely, the chorus would be replaced. Here is a list of some of the languages in which CHA-LA HEAD-CHA-LA was recorded in, besides the dialogue being dubbed:

  • Castilian Spanish
  • Catalan
