From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Chōsokabe Kunichika (長宗我部国親? 1504-1560) was a sengoku daimyo, son of Chōsokabe Kanetsugu and father of Chōsokabe Motochika. During the year of 1508, Kunichika's father was attacked at Motoyama. Afterwards his father attempted to flee, and ended up being killed. Before Kanetsugu died, he sent Kunichika in the care of Ichijo Fusaie. It is said that three years after that event, Fusaie offered a deal to Kunichika. He proposed after a bit of drinking, that if Kunichika were to jump off side of the castle they were presently sitting on, he would help Kunichika retake Oko. To their surprise, Kunichika fearlessly jumped off the edge of the castle, surprising all Ichijo men around him.

During the year of 1518, The Ichijo returned the castle to Kunichika. Now as a vassel under the Ichijo, Kunichika increases his position on the Kochi Plain through alliances, and adoptions into their family. Kunichika then on clashed once again with his long time rivals, the Motoyama. Kunichika did so due to the Motoyama assisting in the death of Kunichika's father. On June of the 8th in the year of 1560, Kunichika died.
