Château la Tour-de-Pin-Figeac

Château la Tour-du-Pin-Figeac is a grands crus classes in the Classification of Saint-Emilion wine and is owned by Jean-Michel Moueix. The sand and gravel vineyards are planted in Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Foliage is partially removed to increase sunlight reaching the grapes to promote flavor, the ripe fruit harvested by hand, the juice is fermented in vats, and the wine is aged for 12-18 months in one-third new oak barrels before bottling.

Château la Tour-du-Pin-Figeac was selected for competition in the Ottawa Wine Tasting of 2005, in which 18 wines were evaluated. Six were from Bordeaux, six from Ontario and six from British Columbia. Conduct of the professional blind tasting was monitored by Sopex, an organization responsible for marketing French wines. The 35 expert wine tasters ranked Château la Tour-de-Pin-Figeac number 15 in the field of 18. First place was won by a British Columbia wine and second place went to an Ontario wine.
