CFB Downsview
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
CFB Downsview was the Canadian Forces base for a helicopter unit in Toronto. The base was originally RCAF Station Downsview and closed in 1994. The airport is still in use as Toronto/Downsview Airport by Bombardier Aerospace.
The base originally housed 400 Squadron and 411 Squadron, both reservist units. Over the post-war years, these two units operated the DeHavilland Vampire fighter, Canadair Sabre fighter, DeHavilland Otter light transport and Kiowa observation helicopters. Upon Downsview's closure, 411 disbanded and 400 moved to CFB Borden, Ontario.
The former base still houses some Canadian Forces reserve units and is home to the Toronto Aerospace Museum.
