Ceti Alpha
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In the fictional Star Trek universe, Ceti Alpha is presumably a star in the Alpha Quadrant and inside the jurisdiction of the United Federation of Planets. The Ceti Alpha system was home to at least six planets for a time. However Ceti Alpha VI is known to have undergone a catastrophic explosion which totally destroyed the planet. This explosion shifted the orbit of Ceti Alpha V laying waste to the planet's once rich ecosystem.
The name "Ceti Alpha" is itself fictional. The Bayer designation of an actual star would be Alpha Ceti, and there is a star by this name, known as Menkar or Menkab. The more well-known star Tau Ceti has been widely used in science fiction, including the very film, Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan, in which the term "Ceti Alpha" appears: the Kobayashi Maru is registered as having a home port of "Amber (Tau Ceti IV)."
The term "Alpha Ceti" is used in place of "Ceti Alpha" in the novelization of Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan, by Vonda McIntyre.
