Cernica

Cernica is a commune in the southeast part of Ilfov County, Romania, with a population of 9,300. citation/source needed

Lake Cernica is located in Cernica. On that lake's St. Gheorghe island there is a monastery, erected around 1608.

The name of the commune is derived from the name of the vornic Cernica Ştirbei and is of Slavic origin, meaning "black".
