Cerebral (musician)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Cerebral (born Matthew Wingate Tuozzo on July 6, 1974 in Prospect Park, Pennsylvania) is an American musician who records a variety of genres, but concentrates mostly in the range of ambient and IDM genres.
Like most IDM acts, Cerebral's music juxtaposes elements of warm melodies with harsh rhythms, mixes analog and digital sounds together, and spans a variety of tempos and styles. Unlike most IDM, however, Cerebral tends to utilize polyrhythms to a much larger degree, sometimes mixing beats of different tempos into each other to create a disorienting switching effect as one tempo emerges from another. Also unlike most IDM, Cerebral has a tendency towards classic song structures, with clearly defined choruses, bridges, and 'effects solos' reminiscent of rock drum solos. Finally, Cerebral will often sing or rap over top of his music, a rarity among IDM artists.

[edit] Biography
Cerebral first began releasing music online in 1999, via the music portal Audiogalaxy. He was a very present artist on that service in their pre-Satellite stage, and remained in their top 3 artists for a number of months. His signature track "Sinclair" was included on the first Audiogalaxy promotional CDROM.
Since then Cerebral has become involved with a number of labels, including Philadelphia-based tbtmo and the vinyl-only miisc.net label. He also collaborates with other artists, most notably as part of Team Techno with fellow IDM artists William Fields and Nintariman, but also with longtime friend Profolyx as Tomaxamot.
Cerebral has traditionally had a long-running online blog, started on his Audiogalaxy page and later continued at http://thechisa.com, where both selections of his music and various essays he has written appeared. His political and personal viewpoints are largely of a leftist slant and are often written with a degree of vitriol. As of September 2006, thechisa.com had been removed, apparently for renovations.
