Central Terminal LRT Station, sometimes called Central, is a station on the Manila LRT Yellow Line (LRT-1). Like all other LRT-1 stations, Central Terminal station is above-ground. The station is located in Ermita in Manila. The station is so-called because it lies at the center of the line. However, a popular name for the station is Arroceros, having been given its name because the station lies near Arroceros Street.

Central Terminal station is the last station of LRT-1 south of the Pasig River and serves as the ninth station for trains headed to Monumento and the tenth station for trains headed to Baclaran. It is near some of Manila's major landmarks, such as Intramuros, the Mehan Garden and the Metropolitan Theater. It is also near the Manila City Hall and the Office of the Ombudsman, as well as the National Museum of the Philippines, the offices of the Department of Labor and Employment and the Philippine Veterans Affairs Office. Shoppers will be able to find themselves content with the nearby SM City Manila.

Due to its location in Manila's University Belt, the station is near educational institutions such as the Colegio de San Juan de Letran, the Philippine Normal University, the city-owned Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila, the MapĂșa Institute of Technology and the Lyceum of the Philippines University. All those institutions, except the Philippine Normal University, lie within the walls of Intramuros.

[edit] Transportation links

Owing to its name, Central Terminal station is a major transportation hub for LRT commuters. A bus terminal lies near the station, plying the Taft Avenue route. Taxis, jeepneys and cycle rickshaws are also available to and from the station.

[edit] LRT-1 disrepair

In 1990, LRT-1 fell so far into disrepair due to wear and tear that LRT trains headed to the station had to crawl to the station to avoid further damage to the support beams below. Poor construction was also alleged by some, but was not proven.
