Central Railway (UK)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Central Railway is a company in the United Kingdom who propose to build a new freight railway line from the Channel Tunnel to the north of England, using much of the trackbed of the former Great Central Railway.

The company argues that such a line could significantly cut traffic congestion.

The company was formed in the late 1980s, and their proposals are controversial and have faced much opposition. Their plans were rejected by the government in 1996 and again in 2003, largely due to concerns over cost.
