[edit] History

Michael Flatley the creator, famous for his Lord of the Dance and Feet of Flames shows, created Celtic Tiger. After being retired for 4 years, Michael announced he was going to tour with a new show. In the summer of 2004 Michael Flatley started the rehearsals of a new show in the SFX Theatre in Dublin, Ireland. In the autumn of 2004 the rehearsals moved on in the Shepperton Studios in London. Michael tried his best to keep the details including the name of the show a secret. However, fans and the media had some guesses to what the show was going to be called and they were right. Michael announced on his website in April of 2005 that he was going to have a preview show of his new extravagaza Celtic Tiger in June of 2005. The first 500 fans who emailed the website's admins got free tickets to one of its preview shows in Birmingham, England. The rest of the tickets were only for fans/friends and dancers and crew.

Celtic Tiger had its first performance at a secret showing in Birmingham, England in 2005, where the DVD was filmed (along with the show in Budapest). Another preview show was suppose to be held in Prague but at the last minute Michael demeed that the venue was unsafe for the dancers and that show was canceled. Celtic Tiger was released to the public on July 9, 2005 in the Nepstadion in Budapest, Hungary. The next show was another preview show but this time it was for the US tour. The preview show for the US was in Worcester, Massachusetts, on September 24, 2005.The first real show in The US was in New York City's Madison Square Garden on September 27,2005. After that show there was a big tour in Canada that latest a month or so. Celtic Tiger then toured the rest of the United States with the exception of the southern states (a possible future tour). The USA World Tour started on September 27 and endend on November 26, 2005.

Celtic Tiger started its European World Tour on April 20, 2006 at the Point Theatere in Dublin. That show was the first time Michael Flatley has danced in the Point Theatre since he debuted Lord of the Dance. The Tour swept across Europe and into parts of Asia. The show was to go on a fall European tour in late 2006. Right now, Celtic Tiger is rumored to go on an Asian Tour, and or a South American Tour. Also, another North American Tour is supposedly under consideration, since the show did not tour the southern parts of the USA. On November 15 of 2006 the Celtic Tiger Fall European Tour was cancelled. Michael himself was hospitalized for a viral infection for two weeks. As of right now Michael has returend to his estate Castle Hyde in Fermoy, Ireland. His website claims that Michael will release his future touring plans in early 2007.

[edit] Meaning

“Celtic Tiger portrays the oppression of a people and the tiger symbolizes the awakening of their Spirit and their struggle for freedom. Celtic Tiger is my finest work to date. Budapest is one of my favourite cities in the world and I can think of no greater place to preview my new show."-Michael Flatley

"Michael explains the show as a story that chronicles the journey of the Celts. It starts with the arrival of the Christianity, taking it further through the Norman invasion, the coming back from the destruction, the Famine in 1840, the British occupation and then the struggle for the independence and finally having to leave and go to the new world, which was America, and starting at the very bottom. All the signs said "No Irish wanted" everywhere, and they had to rise to become the JFK's of America, so again they came from nothing."-www.Celtccafe.com
