Celso Pitta
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Celso Pitta was the first Afro-Brazilian mayor of São Paulo, Brazil from 1997 to 2000, when he was elected as the successor of Paulo Maluf, having his explicit political endorsement, since he worked with Maluf's administration as Secretary of Finances. He was a member of the PPB party that time and faced corruption alegations like his predecessor, most notoriously with accusations coming from his ex-wife, Nicéia Pitta. In his last year as mayor, the idea of impeaching him emerged, but had not enough support in the City's Legislative Power. In 2004, he ran for a seat on City Council, but wasn't elected.
