Celebrities Uncensored
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Celebrities Uncensored was a TV program on the E! network that edited together amusing paparazzi footage of celebrities. The celebrities were often drunk, disorderly or disgruntled, but not all the time, with some throwing tantrums. The show was cancelled in June 2004 when Mindy Herman, E!'s CEO at the time, was forced from the network, and the new executive put in her place decided to take the network's programming in a kinder direction that was gentler to celebrities and less exploitative about their private lives, and away from Herman's more controversial programming style.
Thru the first thirteen episodes, CELEBRITIES UNCENSORED was the highest rated show on E! Throughout those thirteen episodes it sometimes rated higher than The Howard Stern Show. CELEBRITIES UNCENSORED Episodes 2 thru 13 featured PARIS HILTON and NICOLE RICHIE and propelled that dynamic duo to fame. The global community became aware of Paris and Nicole on this program. These two celebutants are the stars of THE SIMPLE LIFE, now on E!.
The show's paparazzi, E.L.Woody, Henry Trappler, and Steve Brodersen, as well as Egyptian superfan YaYa Mohamoud, have become celebrities themselves. Some celebrities are even friendly with them, while other celebrities hate them. Carmen Electra has said to one of the paparazzis of the show that she loves him, while, on the other side of the mirror, Brad Pitt has expressed objections about being filmed.
Show originator and Executive Producer, E.L.Woody, delivered the highest rated show on E!, at that time, but after failed negotiations, left the show when his contract expired, at the end of the first complete season (episodes 1 - 13). He has appeared on ENTOURAGE, as himself, on CNN, MSNBC, Good Morning America, DATELINE, and THE HISTORY CHANNEL and hosts www.Celebrities.com on the net. No outside Executive Producer has been allowed at E! since his departure.
Rachelle & Gary Kaplan, husband and wife paparazzi, tried to fill the vacuum, as content suppliers, only. CELEBRITIES UNCENSORED was cancelled in the United States, only, after Season Two, due to pressure from celebrity publicists and low ratings. The publicists began refusing to let their A-list clients speak to Joan Rivers on the red carpet or cooperate with True Hollywood Story, citing displeasure with Celebrities Uncensored, the show was cancelled in the U.S. but continued to be E!'s number one rated show, globally until September, 2006, when E!'s contract to broadcast the first thirteen episodes expired.
