RAR Archived Comic Book File, more commonly called a ComicBook Reader File or abbreviated to CBR, is a file format created for displaying and navigating comic book pages with the CDisplay image viewer. CBR files typically contain compressed PNG, JPEG, or static GIF files, and their contents can be decompressed by any utility that can decompress RAR files. A related format is CBZ, which differs only in that it uses renamed ZIP files as containers.
The first comic produced specifically for this format was released in August 2006 by Jim Shelley and Pierre Villeneuve, and is available as a free download at http://www.flashbackuniverse.com
