CD Shattering, a phenomenon also known as Exploding CDs, occurs when a high speed CD-ROM drive (48X or higher) shatters a CD with a loud cracking sound. Typically, the disk and the drive will be completely ruined after the incident. Furthermore, fragments of the broken disk can be expelled through the front cover of the drive at high speed and cause physical injury.
