[edit] Rationale of fair use

The image Image:CBMI poster.jpg is being linked here; though the picture is originally copyright, I (Slgrandson 17:49, 25 May 2006 (UTC)) feel it is covered by fair use because:

  1. No free or public domain images have been located for this film.
  2. The image is of lower resolution than the original poster (copies made from it will be of inferior quality).
  3. The image does not limit the copyright owners' rights to distribute the film in any way.
  4. For an article about an film, the promotional artwork is arguably one of the most important images that could be included. This is the artwork, intended by The Samuel Goldwyn Company for wide distribution. As such, it has future historical significance, and is a more appropriate choice than any other image available.
  5. Its inclusion in the article is important because it suggests something of the film's style.
  6. Versions of this image are available on various websites, so its use on Wikipedia does not make it significantly more accessible or visible than it already is. The poster is being used for informational purposes only, and its use is not believed to detract from the original film in any way.

[edit] Licensing

Copyrighted

This image is of a movie poster, and the copyright for it is most likely owned by either the publisher of the movie or the studio which produced the movie in question. It is believed that the use of scaled-down, low-resolution images of movie posters

qualifies as fair use under United States copyright law. Any other uses of this image, on Wikipedia or elsewhere, may be copyright infringement. See Wikipedia:Fair use for more information.

To the uploader: please add a detailed fair use rationale for each use, as described on Wikipedia:Image description page, as well as the source of the work and copyright information.
