Template talk:Catholic order

Is this necessary? There are over 3,000 congregations of religious in the Catholic church a box would get truly unwieldy very soon. Williamb 11:33, 6 January 2006 (UTC)
- At the time I made this template, I didn't know there would be such a large number of those congregations. borgx (talk) 12:03, 15 January 2006 (UTC)
- I still think a template is a hugely bad idea. There are over 3,000 congregations in the Catholic church, a template is going to be too huge to be userful. A reference back to orders would actually be easier to use in the long run Williamb 06:07, 27 April 2006 (UTC)
There probably is a third way: in stead of one box the size of Texas, a series of linked boxes, each of which is identical in the top part (a list of the types of orders to which individual templates are devoted, so you can jump between boxes; that can be created as a separate template, I believe), the bottom part the blue links to wikipedia articles on each in the relevant type (e.g. canons regular, mendicant orders, etc., the largest ones possibly split between man and women). Anyone knows enough about the template command codes to make them (or at least one that can be copied as a model)? Fastifex 18:36, 18 May 2006 (UTC)
- If this template gets as huge as it probably will, it will make every one of the articles too long just by itself. Most of the articles are already dominated by the template Williamb 01:00, 24 May 2006 (UTC)
I think a category is sufficient. It's probably easier for a Wikipedia reader to see all the names on the category page, alphabetized automatically, than to try to navigate by those tiny links in the template. The category does not require any maintenance either. A category already exists: [[Category:Roman Catholic orders and societies]]. All we have to do is put it at the bottom of each page in the template. MamaGeek Joy 11:18, 24 May 2006 (UTC)
Well, it will need more organization if it is kept... but, I have changed it (removed image) so it can now be hidden... it should default to hide... but, I don't know how to do that.... that will make it less problematic. gren グレン 21:14, 11 June 2006 (UTC)
