[edit] Grotesque France
And the image of France in that movie is grotesque! David.Monniaux 20:45, 18 Sep 2003 (UTC)
I'm not surprised to see that the arrest sentence was entirely bogus... It just seemed unrealistic, and did not fit with the procedures, as far as I know. David.Monniaux 22:23, 20 Aug 2004 (UTC)
- The book depict the French prison sentence much worse than the movie did. Thinggs like maggots on the floor, no leaving the window-less with no light in which he could not fully strecth out or standup in. Pattersonc(Talk) 4:51 AM, Saturday; January 28 2006 (EST)
- It is worth noting though that Frank got very sick there. Also prison conditions were much worse in the late 60s and early 70s than they are today. Jon 16:51, 27 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Differences?
Perhaps someone who knows could add the particular ways in which the movie differs from the real life events. Every movie is fictionalized in some respect, so just to say that it differs is a pretty meaningless statement. Gamaliel 19:50, 24 Jun 2004 (UTC)
- How's that? Look at Catch_Me_If_You_Can#Comparison the Comparison. It's been a while since I've the read the book (better than the movie, BTW) or seen the movie, but those are the differences as I remember them. :-) — Frecklefoot | Talk 18:39, Jul 8, 2004 (UTC)
-
- Nice work. I did remove the section about the call girl though, as that incident does appear in the movie. (She's played by Jennifer Garner.) And the movie does show him with women other than Brenda (I think that's the name of that nurse) but perhaps not as many as in real life. Gamaliel 19:29, 8 Jul 2004 (UTC)
- Thanks for that change. Like I said, it's been a while since I've seen the movie and wasn't sure if that incident was included. I re-introduced some of the paragraph you removed since his liasons with women are a big theme in his book. — Frecklefoot | Talk 19:45, Jul 8, 2004 (UTC)
- One of the bigger differences I recall is that Abignale was betrayed by a stewardess he had tol the truth to, not the nurse as sepicted int he movie. And it was done out of trust, or perhaps love, not because he was the Feds were knocking down his door. I decided toread it again, I'll be able to get more detail tommorrow when I finish. Pattersonc(Talk) 4:55 AM, Saturday; January 28 2006 (EST)
- It's also worth noting that the book also dramatized. In some cases the movie is more accurate, in others the book, and in others neither. Jon 16:41, 27 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Remake
The page for Stephen Sommers says he made this movie in 1989, and linked to this page. Thus, this one is a remake. Someone fill us in. --TIB (talk) 01:50, Aug 20, 2004 (UTC)
- It's not a remake. After a quick trip to http//www.allmovie.com, I created the "other films with the same title" section. This should clear up any confusion. I don't think any of these films are significant enough to be encyclopedia so we won't be needing a disambiguation page. Gamaliel 02:03, 20 Aug 2004 (UTC)
[edit] Cast List
Is it really necessary to include the ENTIRE cast? One can get that info on IMDB. I ask because many on the cast are non notables yet are linked to would be article under their name. --Dysepsion 05:55, 5 August 2005 (UTC)
- Well, I once got yelled at for claiming that the IMDb was a valid place to go to for additional information. However, I agree with you. Everyone after Sheen should be trimmed. — Frecklefoot | Talk 13:56, August 5, 2005 (UTC)
If I remember the book correctly, he wasn't arrested by just two policemen, he went to a grocery store and was jumped by what he described as a small army of overexcited and triggerhappy French police. Did he make that up to? I ask because the comparison section seems to clash with the claims in the book; if Abagnale cooked that part up in his book,(it seemed unrealistic anyway) I think it deserves a mention.
[edit] Inverted?
there was contact between the two before Abagnale's return
I'm guessing this is a typo?
[edit] Deleted "Simpsons" reference in introduction
Is there some kind of unwritten rule on Wikipedia that there has to be a reference to "The Simpsons" on every single article? This article is about the film "Catch Me If You Can", not "The Simpsons". The sentence that I deleted makes it seem that the movie was famous because it was parodied on "The Simpsons". Obviously, this is not the case. --Fightingirish 16:21, 26 June 2006 (UTC)
- Yes, Every article must mention the Simpsons. ;-) —Cliffb 08:57, 16 August 2006 (UTC)
- Simpsons reference should be included in the Trivia section, but definitely not in the intro. I'll add it. =) Jumping cheese Cont@ct 03:52, 24 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Disambig and other articles needed
The other works by the same title would be best for a disambig page. Details on all of them should get their own articles. I'd sugest the default continue to be here with a link to the disambig page. Jon 16:41, 27 June 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Contridiction
- In reality, he was arrested while grocery shopping by three gendarmes, and he was quickly identified after he tried to talk his way out of the situation.
- Abagnale in real life was captured in a grocery store in Montpellier, where he had gone to ground, by two uniformed police officers.
These two sentences contradict each other. Not sure which is true.—Cliffb 08:58, 16 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] $4 million = $20?
The "$20 now" statement sounded like bullshit when I read it, and, indeed, it is. According to the "inflation calendar, $4 million is $654,876.43. Looking at the revision history, this dude (24.226.10.98) did it, and changed to $ million from 2,5. I can't remember from the movie how much he stole. so I will chuck the $20 statement only.
