It appears it's an entire series. I checked the credits of The Catacomb Abyss and it says

  • Programming by Mike Maynard, Jim Row, and Nolan Martin
  • Art Direction by Steve Maines
  • Art Production by Steve Maines, Carol Ludden, Jerry Jones and Adrian Carmack
  • Quality Assurance by Jim Weiler and Judi Mangham
  • 3D Imaging Effects by id Software

and also "copyright 1992 Softdisk, Inc."

After checking with http://www.classicgaming.com/catacomb/ and http://www.mobygames.com/game_group/sheet/gameGroupId,360/ it appears there are several games in the series.

Catacomb - 2D view from above, by John Carmack. 1989-1990
Catacomb II - sequel to Catacomb with the same engine.
Catacomb 3d: A new dimension - 3D in 16 colour EGA
Catacomb 3d: The Descent - same as above, but changed title screen and Nemesis is called Gremlinar instead.
Catacomb Abyss - the first game in the Catacomb Fantasy Trilogy and the only in the trillogy released as shareware
Catacomb Armageddon (re-released as Curse of the Catacombs) - sequel
Catacomb Apocalypse (re-released as Terror of the Catacombs) - another sequel, now also with science fiction elements
Catacomb Resurrection - an unrelated remake that never was finished.

Seems to be quite a lot of screenshots on this page. I think it could be trimmed down to 1-2 images. sik0fewl 02:50, 21 Feb 2004 (UTC)

Wow yeah. I removed about half of them and there are still more of them than there is text. :) --Mrwojo 01:24, 29 Sep 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Jerry Jones

The Jerry Jones links end up going to an entry for the guy who owns the Dallas Cowboys football team, but that's a different Jerry Jones from the one who worked for Softdisk and was involved in the Catacomb series game art. If an entry is desirable for this Jerry Jones, then a disambiguation is needed; otherwise, the name shouldn't be linked. Dtobias 17:54, 27 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Agreed, rather no link than a wrong link. I changed the link to Jerry Jones (artist) which I think is the appropriate DAB word. Retodon8 16:57, 3 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Article/game title

This whole series' naming is pretty confusing, but shouldn't the article be called Catacomb 3-D with a dash? Both the Infobox screenshot and MobyGames's article on the game (also check the page on the whole series) seem to indicate that. Retodon8 16:57, 3 January 2006 (UTC)
