Cathleen Vitale

Cathleen Marie Vitale (born August 13, 1964 in Amityville, New York), is an American politician. She is a member of the County Council for District 5 of Anne Arundel County, Maryland. A Republican, she formerly served as the Council's Chairperson.

Vitale has been frequently rumored to be running for Anne Arundel County Executive or seeking appointment by Governor Robert Ehrlich to the Anne Arundel County District Court bench. She is a known acquaintance of the first lady of Maryland, Kendel Ehrlich. Vitale is assumed to be running for reelection for an unprecedented third term in the 2006 election. Although County regulations limit the terms to two elections, Vitale was first appointed in 2000 to fill the vacancy created by the passing of Councilman Cliff Roop and won her first election in 2002.

Vitale was formerly secretary for the Maryland Republican Party and Chairman of the Republican State Central Committee of Anne Arundel County.

Vitale was appointed by Governor Ehrlich to the state Critical Area Commission.

For a lawyer and politician, she has made few financial contributions to candidates for office. As of May 2005, she has made no contribution to any federal or state candidate for office.

Vitale is an associate attorney with the Glen Burnie Law Offices of Henault & Sysko Chartered. Her practice interests include family law, estate planning and juvenile law. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Government and Politics from the University of Maryland, College Park in 1985 and a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from the University of Baltimore in 1989.

Vitale lives in Severna Park. She is married to a firefighter and has one son.
