Cathedral of San Giusto, Susa

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Cathedral of San Giusto is the main religious edifice in Susa, Piedmont, in northern Italy.

The church was erected around 1100 and was later restored several times. Until 1772, when it became a bishopric seat, the church was part of a Benedictine abbey.

The Cathedral of Susa is in Romanesque style. The façade has terracotta decorations and is joined to the Porta Savoia ("Savoy Gate", 4th century) on the right side. At the mid of the right side is the bell-tower, with six level of mullioned windows.

The interior is on the Latin Cross plan, with a nave and two aisles. It includes also a baptistry which is precedent to the church. It houses a tomb traditionally attributed to Adelaide, wife of marquis Otto of Savoy.
