Cater 2 U was the fourth and final single from Destiny's Child's sixth album Destiny Fulfilled. Released in 2005, the single peaked at number fourteen on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, becoming Destiny's Child's eleventh top twenty single. "Cater 2 U" has been nominated for 2 Grammy Awards in 2006, including Best R&B Song and Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with vocals. The song is also notable because whenever NFL wide receivers beat Roy Williams for a touchdown they sing this song to mock him and the fact that his girlfriend Kelly Rowland sings about him in the song.

[edit] Song information

The single was written by Beyonce Knowles, Kelly Rowland, Michelle Williams, Rodney Jerkins, Ric Rude, and Robert Waller. It was co-produced by Knowles, Jerkins, and Rude. In the song, Beyonce, Michelle, and Kelly talk about how they want to cater to their significant others in various fashions. To sum up their feelings, the three ladies coo, "Let me cater to you, cause baby this is your day, do anything for my man, baby you blow me away."

This approach was also depicted in the song's music video and was reflected in a controversial performance at the BET Awards.

[edit] Music video

The music video of this song was directed by Jake Nava, who had directed Beyonce's "Crazy in Love", "Baby Boy", and "Naughty Girl" .

The video was filmed in large part at Red Rock Canyon State Park.

[edit] Chart performance

As the 4th single released from Destiny Fulfilled, "Cater 2 U" was not expected to perform as well as lead singles "Lose My Breath" and "Soldier". It surpassed the success of "Girl" peaking at #14 on the Billboard Hot 100. The following single "Stand Up for Love" would not chart on the Billboard Hot 100.

The song had already been playing on radio, by the time it was properly released. "Cater 2 U" had originally been announced as the album's 3rd single, however "Cater 2 U" continued to gain airplay along with "Girl". As radio programmers juggled between the two songs, "Girl" was finally announced as the official 3rd single. When "Cater 2 U" was finally promoted as the album's official 4th single, radio programmers were reluctant to play the song. Many other radio stations began to add the song for the first time, but without a music video, the song did not begin to chart until early June. When the music video was finally released, the song had already lost much of its steam.

The song was a major hit on the R&B charts, peaking at #3 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks.

However, "Cater 2 U" failed to find much interest on the US Pop charts, and did not appear on either the Top 40 Mainstream or the Pop 100 Airplay charts. "Cater 2 U" peaked at #8 on the Hot 100 Airplay, but due to digital downloads, in reality, the song peaked at #14.

In the UK, "Cater 2 U" topped the video airplay charts, but failed to gain much radio play, and the single was cancelled. In Australia, the song debuted and peaked at number 15 and lasted just under seven weeks in the Top 50.
