"The Cataract of Lodore" is a poem by the English poet Robert Southey which describes the Lodore Falls on the Watendlath Beck just above Derwent Water in Cumbria. (To describe them as a cataract is considerable poetic licence.) The Powell Expedition named the Gates of Lodore after this poem.
