Casualties of the Battle of Bluff Cove
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
On the 24 May 1982, at the height of the Falklands War, a very heavy Argentine airstrike was launched against British shipping in San Carlos Water between the islands. Several ships suffered damage, but the worst loss of life occurred when the landing ship RFA Sir Galahad was struck by three bombs which created a flash fire across her loading decks, killing 48 of her crew and passengers, and wounding dozens more, including Simon Weston. At the same time, two men were killed on the RFA Sir Tristram when it was strafed, and another six on a small landing craft of the HMS Fearless, which was blown up by rocket fire in the bay.
