On October 6, 1799 a Franco-Dutch army under Guillaume Brune defeated an Anglo-Russian army under Ralph Abercromby and the Duke of York in the Battle of Castricum.

Castricum is a tourist attraction in the province North Holland. It offers tourists such attractions as the beach, the lake of Alkmaar-Uitgeest and also the dunes.
