Castleton, North Yorkshire

Castleton is a village on the River Esk in the county of North Yorkshire in England. It can be found about 15 miles south east of Middlesbrough, in the North York Moors.

It is served by Castleton Moor railway station on the Esk Valley Line. Castleton has a local school and two public houses "The Down Arms" and "The Eskdale". As well as a CO-OP, village shop, post office, petrol station, tea room and even an art gallery. Castleton is a centre for walking, birdwatching, shooting and many other pursuits. It is said that Castleton was named after a castle built near the River Esk. Castleton has a cricket team which plays next to the river.
