Castle thunder is the name of a famous sound effect, originally recorded for the 1931 version of Frankenstein, and later used by many, many movies, including Citizen Kane, Cleopatra, The Hindenburg, Ghostbusters, Airplane!, Murder by Death, Twilight Zone: The Movie, Clue, Back to the Future, Big Trouble in Little China, Trading Places, Short Circuit, Star Wars, The Monster Squad, Death Becomes Her, and Mel Brooks' Young Frankenstein. It was also heard on various Disney and Hanna-Barbera cartoons, particuarly the original Scooby-Doo cartoons, while What's New, Scooby-Doo? only used the thunder sound effect in a couple of episodes to make way for newer, digitally-recorded thunderclaps. It was also used on an episode of Shaggy & Scooby-Doo Get a Clue!. It was also heard regularly on the TV series Gilligan's Island. The sound effect is used in the Haunted Mansion at Disneyland within the Stretching Room. The sound effect is also featured in the single Believe Me by Fort Minor on their album The Rising Tied. The sound can be found on the 20th Century Fox Sound Effects Library from Sound Ideas, as well as on the Network Sound Effects Library.
