Castle of Trifels

The Castle of Trifles (German: Reichsburg Trifels) is a castle near Annweiler, in Palatinate, Germany.
First mentioned in a 1081 document, in the 12th and 13th centuries it was the seat of the imperial insignas of the Salic and Hohenstaufen Emperors. The castle is most famous as the place in which Richard I of England was kept as prisoner after his return from the crusades.
It is chacterized by a large well tower outside the ring wall, linked to the castle by a bridge.
