First published in 1990 (US in 1991), Castle in the Air returns to Ingary, the setting for Howl's Moving Castle, though the two works are only loosely related.
Castle in the Air follows the adventures of Abdullah, a handsome young carpet salesman from the Sultanates of Rashpuht, "far to the south of Ingary." Abdullah's humdrum life suddenly becomes exciting when he purchases a magic carpet. In this lighthearted tale reminescent of Aladdin, Abdullah attempts to track down the girl he loves after she is kidnapped by a hostile djinn.
