Castle Crag is a hill in the North Western part of the English Lake District. It is the smallest hill included in Alfred Wainwright's List of Wainwrights because of its 'mountain-in-miniature' appearance. The Crag certainly looks impressive, a rugged height apparently blocking the valley of Borrowdale, which squeezes between it and its neighbour on the other side of the valley, Grange Fell in a narrow gorge known as the 'Jaws of Borrowdale'.

The Crag may be ascended easily from the villages of Grange or Rosthwaite, and should be combined with the lovely riverside walk along the River Derwent. The south face of the hill has been disfigured by quarrying, and the summit itself is a remarkable rock tor that can only be conquered by means of a sloping crack. The views are very good down Borrowdale towards Derwent Water with Skiddaw beyond.
