Cashback websites are designed with the intention of paying customers every time they shop online. The cashback websites work as a middleman because they get paid for every visitor they send to who an online store who then goes onto make a purchase. The cashback will receive a commission payment once the purchase is confirmed and will then share this payment with the customer who made the purchase. This means that the cashback site makes a profit on the sale and the consumer gets to recoup some of the initial outlay back, therefore making it profitable for the consumer to shop via the cashback website. By making all their purchases through a cashback site, the consumer could potentially recoup hundreds of pounds/dollars over the course of the year.

Loyalty is an important aspect to making cashback websites work because getting customers to remain loyal to the site will ensure that customers return and make repeat purchases via the website – creating money for both the cashback website and the user.
