The term cashback is used in several contexts to refer to schemes in which customers receive money, in the form of cash or otherwise, during transactions in which the main movement of money is in the other direction. In particular:

  • Debit card cashback allows shoppers to receive cash along with their goods when paying by debit card.
  • Credit card cashback, in which the card company pays the customer a small amount for each use of the card.
  • Loyalty program cashback, one of several discount schemes used especially by online retailers.
  • Mortgage cashback, a scheme in which customers' borrowings include a lump sum at the beginning of the term.
  • Rebates obtained by sending receipts or proofs-of-purchase to the manufacturer of an item are sometimes known as cashback.
  • Cashback Websites allow customers to earn a cash rebate on online purchases that they make.
