Casey John Kotchman (born February 22, 1983 in St. Petersburg, Florida) is a Major League Baseball first baseman for Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. He hit his first Major League home run on August 5, 2005. In 47 games in 2005, Kotchman had 7 home runs and 22 runs batted in.

Following a senior season in high school in which he led his team to a state title and was named Florida's Mr. Baseball (beating out fellow Angels teammate Jeff Mathis), Kotchman was a first-round pick by the Angels.

His father, Tom, is a scout and minor-league coach within the Angels organization. Since the elder Kotchman was the scout of Florida-area talent (where the family lived), the Angels didn't want to tip their hand to their interest in the star and didn't allow him to report or have access to the organization's scouting of his son. [1]

In 2006, the Angels moved 2005 starter Darin Erstad to center field, announcing that Kotchman would likely open the season at first base. After struggling in his at bats early in 2006, Kotchman was placed on the disabled list due to the effects of mononucleosis in early May.
