Cascade, Idaho

Cascade is a city in Valley County, Idaho, United States. The population was 997 at the 2000 census. The city is the county seat of Valley CountyGR6. Cascade is on the southeast shore of Lake Cascade (Cascade Reservoir), formed by the Cascade Dam, which was completed in 1948. The city was the home of a Boise Cascade sawmill which closed in 2001.
The recreational city of McCall is 30 miles north, and the village of Donnelly is a little over midway, via the state highway (#55). The new Tamarack Resort is across the reservoir to the northwest.

(44.515575, -116.043681)According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 10.9 km² (4.2 mi²). 9.3 km² (3.6 mi²) of it is land and 1.5 km² (0.6 mi²) of it (14.05%) is water.

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 997 people, 421 households, and 282 families residing in the city. The population density was 106.6/km² (275.8/mi²). There were 562 housing units at an average density of 60.1/km² (155.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 95.59% White, 0.10% African American, 0.40% Native American, 0.30% Asian, 0.10% Pacific Islander, 1.60% from other races, and 1.91% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.21% of the population.
There were 421 households out of which 30.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.1% were married couples living together, 10.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.0% were non-families. 29.2% of all households were made up of individuals and 10.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.32 and the average family size was 2.83.
In the city the population was spread out with 27.0% under the age of 18, 4.3% from 18 to 24, 25.3% from 25 to 44, 26.5% from 45 to 64, and 17.0% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 102.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 99.5 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $32,411, and the median income for a family was $37,813. Males had a median income of $36,250 versus $20,139 for females. The per capita income for the city was $17,330. About 9.3% of families and 12.1% of the population were below the poverty line, including 20.1% of those under age 18 and 9.0% of those age 65 or over.
